Frequently Asked Questions

2007 Season

  1. DOES AYF&C PROVIDE A LIST OF CONTACTS FOR PARENTS? Yes, you can find our Board of Directors on the website, www.alohayouthfootball.com .  Important dates and events, and game schedules (closer to the season) can be found there, also.
  2. CAN YOU GIVE ME ANY INFORMATION THAT WOULD HELP ME UNDERSTAND THE GAME OF FOOTBALL? The following book might be helpful:  Mom, Can I Play Football?: An Introspective View of the Game for Parents and Coaches by Jerry Nortan and Chester Villar.
  3. WHAT IS YOUR RULE ON PLAYING THE GAME? A minimum of 10 plays.  TVYLF requires "play plotters" at every game to ensure that this requirement is met.
  4. BOUNDARY ISSUES? Tualatin Valley Youth Football League (see www.tvyfl.org ), of which AYF is a member, has grown so much over the past few years that the Presidents voted to break us down into multiple divisions. Aloha is in the “Montavon” division and will generally play the following Associations in games and play-offs:  Sunset, Westview, Beaverton , Southridge, Lincoln and SEI.  Each child playing within these associations will play for whichever High School they would attend, based upon where they physically live.
  5. KEY DATES AND EVENTS?  See home page .
  6. CAN MY SECOND GRADER PLAY? Yes, however a waiver needs to be signed by the parent and the President of our association, stating that the parent is aware that their 2nd grade will be playing with 3rd and 4th graders.
  7. CAN YOU PUT MY CHILD ON A TEAM WITH HIS FRIEND? All player assignments are based on player evaluation and Tualatin Valley Youth Valley Football by-laws.
  8. CAN I REQUEST A CERTAIN COACH FOR MY SON/DAUGHTER?  All team assignments are based on player evaluation and our by-laws requirements.
  9. CAN MY SON/DAUGHTER GET GEAR EARLY FOR CAMPS?  Yes. Requests need to be made in writing and submitted to the registrar at least two weeks prior to camp date. All forms and fees: medical, registration, equipment, volunteer…. must be in to the registrar prior to issue of gear.
  10. MY SON/DAUGHTER JUST HAD A PHYSICAL FOR BASEBALL. IS ANOTHER PHYSICAL REQUIRED? So long as the physical was done for this current baseball season, he/she does not have to have another one. However, we need to have OUR medical form signed and dated by a Licensed Medical Professional recognized by the State of Oregon. THIS IS MANDATORY.
  11. HOW MAY NIGHTS A WEEK DO THEY PRACTICE AND WHERE? Before school starts, teams practice 5 days a week – usually for 2 hours a practice. After school starts, we are limited to 6 hours of practice a week, with games on Saturdays. The days on which your child's practices will occur depends on the coach, with input from the parents. Practices are held at Aloha Park and Mt. View Fields.  Home games are held at Mt. View with the exception of Homecoming,  which will be at Aloha High School .
  12. DO WE HAVE TO PAY AT REGISTRATION? All fees must be paid prior to receiving equipment.
  13. WHAT DO WE NEED TO PROVIDE FOR OUR CHILDREN TO PLAY? Cleats (screw in only with posts into shoes, molded only) mouth guard and plenty of water.  We provide helmets, jerseys, game pants, pads and shoulder pads.
  14. DOES THE ASSOCIATION HAVE INSURANCE? Yes, but it's secondary to your own personal insurance plan to which claims must be submitted first. If you do not have insurance, ours will go into primary coverage.
  15. WHAT IS THE POLICY ON MISSING GAMES AND PRACTICES? Of course, there are always exceptions, however this is a team and personal commitment, which your son/daughter has accepted. Missing significant practice/game time may impact playtime due to safety, conditioning and team commitment.
  16. WHAT IS MY ROLE AS A PARENT? We need your help as a volunteer for team parent, fund raising, field prep, concessions, homecoming and equipment hand-out and other activities as needed. We also expect that you will conduct yourselves with sportsmanship at all times.

Playoff and Championship games will follow the N.F.H.S. High School rules. Please read bylaws for direction on what to do if officials do not conduct a Kansas Plan in the event of a tie.
